See me. Hear me.
an art show about empathy
The 30 participating artists in this exhibit have important thoughts on what empathy is and why its important in the world we live in today. Thank you to the talented Olivia Yeneka for capturing these stories. https://www.itslivyen.com/projects/canopy-studios
Yiting Hui shares her thoughts on empathy, creativity, and the power of being seen and heard. She believes art can spark healing, self-awareness, and meaningful connection with ourselves and others.
Whitney Carole is a Calgary-based artist exploring themes of empowerment, body reclamation, and womb wisdom through clay vulva sculptures and feminine body casting. Her work challenges stigma and opens dialogue around the female form.
To her, empathy is the quiet thread that weaves us together. Through art, she creates space for presence, connection, and reflection—offering viewers a chance to witness shared humanity.
Fiona Macelli and Alex Rettie have teamed up to build empathy for and inspire discussion about the plight of people facing financial stress (which is also emotional and mental stress) as technology pushes them out of their previously comfortable careers.
Jean Parker is a Canadian artist whose work reflects a deep connection to creativity, nature, and wellness. She has been involved in the See Me. Hear Me. show since it began four years ago. This year, she is featuring a piece from her Strength & Grace collection, which explores the duality of dance—athlete and artist. Jean empathizes with and admires the physical and mental dedication of dancers. Through bold, expressive strokes, she captures both the power and poetry of movement, inspired by 18 years of watching her daughter dance.

Softened by moonlight and the nighttime sounds of
the river, following its darkened path, may we find our
way back to our own inner landscape."
This exhibition features works created by Wanru Kemp during her Sheep River Artist Residency, accompanied by a new series of night scenes along the river.
“…someday the arts will be considered as significant and essential in everyone’s lives as breathing fresh air, eating clean foods, and engaging in physical exercise.”

Join our creative community!
Many of us don’t think we are creative. Let us try to change your mind! Did you know the NASA creativity test has proven that 98% of children under the age of 5 are creative genius’? Find out more on this Tedx Talk by Dr. George Land. That incredible imagination we all had as children still lives within us and would not take long to re-discover with a little creative exercise. Research also shows that tapping into your own creativity can be used as a powerful tool to improve mental health and overall well-being which is why Canopy Studios is so passionate about bringing awareness to the healing power of art and providing opportunities for our diverse community to attend the creative workshops hosted in our space!
Join us and discover the magic of the creative process, let go of artistic expectations, find a deeper connection with yourself as well as with others who are also inviting the arts into their life.
Thank you for taking the time to fill out this form so we can keep you updated on upcoming opportunities at Canopy! We can’t wait to create and heal with you!
