Artist Statement
My work exposes the often-invisible labour of vigilance, self-protection, and autonomy that shapes the daily lives of women. I am interested in how gendered expectations and inherited behaviours are passed down through generations, shaping how we move through the world.
By making outdated and biased systems visible, I invite viewers to question what has become normalized, imagine alternatives, and come together to enact change.
Meet the Artist
Bio
Suzanne Piechotta’s work examines resistance and the strategies women use in daily life through painting, soft sculpture, and installation. Her themes include safety, autonomy, and contemporary womanhood. She holds a BFA from Alberta University of the Arts and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Calgary. She is currently pursuing an M.F.A. in painting at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Piechotta lives and creates in Calgary, AB.
